Diane and I were patiently waiting as the clock ticked off the minutes until 8:15 p.m., when we could start making our way towards the restaurant and the dinner delights that we knew awaited us. The sky outside was exactly the same lightness and color that it was when we were out 2 hours before. You would NEVER know it was anywhere near time for the sun to set. We walked down the nearly deserted street. Most all shops were closed, as Beaulieu goes to sleep very early! We enjoyed a light breeze and the quiet of the neighborhood. We passed the pizza restaurant we saw earlier, and decided if our place was still packed, we would come back there. But, luck was with us. Actually, luck has been with us the entire trip, as Isabelle told me yesterday that for the last 4 days it had rained form 2-8 p.m. And today... NOTHING! Diane and I are definitely bringing the Arizona sunshine with us everywhere we go!
Our restaurant was open, and there were some tables open outside, so we sat right down. We ordered a glass or red wine when the waiter came over, and it was brought rather quickly. Upon the return of our guy, we told him we were ready to order. Earlier Diane had spied that the filet mignon was only $17 Euros. Yum! And there were 2 different scallops dishes and we chose the one with the champagne sauce. We knew that Brian would be a little bit envious that we were having scallops and could not wait to tell him about them. The evening was mellow as we waited for our food. It arrived quicker than I had anticipated. Upon arrival, though, Diane and I both just stared at the two plates with our mouths open.
Our waiter, seeing the confusd looks on our faces, came over immediately and asked if everything was ok... well... it WAS ok if scallops were chicken and filet mignon was pork... we were sooooo confused. So all we could do was just laugh. We told the guy it was fine. So, the lovely medium rare fillet mignon was actually tender pork medallions, and the scallops were actually turkey "escalloped"??? in some yummy sauce. It was absolutely delicious but ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like what we had anticipated. It was so funny because it was all a communication (language) snafu. LOL... But we ate every bit of it, as it was to die for. We also got a whole bowl of the most delectable french fries I have ever had. Such an unexpected meal, but fabulous, nonetheless. To top it all off, our waiter gave us a free digestive... some kind of a shot that was lemony or something that was supposed to help with digestion. It did!
While Diane and I were sitting having dinner, I kept hearing Journey songs, and a lot of other American
tunes from a live band that must have been down the road at a bar. We decided to walk down after we finished our dinner. We found the party, not two blocks down from our restaurant. Lively, well played and sang American pop tunes were being belted out into the quiet of the Beaulieu evening. People were dancing and really enjoying the sounds that they were listening to. Diane and I stayed for a little bit, but with nightfall coming, decided to walk it on home and call it a night.
Oh, ya... I forgot to mention that as Diane and I were finishing up at the restaurant, one of the locals (who had literally been there for over 4 hours) came up and "striped" us with the French colors... to show our support for the French soccer team as they play this next month! Lol.
Cute selfie!! So funny that the food was not steak and scallops!
